Warning light on? We carry out engine and electrical diagnostics on all makes and models — reading fault codes, finding the real cause, and putting it right. We also test and fit batteries and handle auto-electrics.
A warning light doesn't always mean the worst, but it does mean something needs checking. At Roscoe Street Garage in Scarborough we use professional equipment to read the fault codes and, just as importantly, work out what's actually causing them — so you're not paying to replace parts that don't need it.
The engine management light (often an orange engine symbol) comes on when the car's computer detects a fault. It could be something small like a sensor, or something that needs attention soon. A steady light usually means book it in; a flashing light can mean a misfire that may damage the catalytic converter, so it is best to stop driving and call us on 01723 336989.
Plugging in a code reader tells you where the car thinks the problem is. It does not always tell you why. We diagnose engine management and warning lights and carry out full electrical fault finding, tracing the root cause rather than guessing — then give you a free quote for the repair, whether that is a sensor, wiring or a mechanical repair.
We test batteries and supply and fit new ones — see car battery replacement — replace lights and bulbs, and handle auto-electrical work. ECU software updates can be arranged by appointment.
Some dashboard warning lights, such as the engine management, ABS and airbag lights, can cause an MOT failure. If your test is coming up, it is worth having the light diagnosed first. We can then arrange the test as part of our MOT repair service.
